MARK JARZOMBEK
STATEMENT
Lilly Reich (1885 – 1947) was a designer of textiles, furniture, interiors, and exhibition spaces. She was a close collaborator with Ludwig Mies van der Rohe for more than ten years during the Weimar period in the 1920s and early 1930s. She got little recognition during her lifetime. She was responsible for the interiors of the famous Barcelona Pavilion though this is rarely mentioned in textbooks, perhaps because the building was photographed in black and white. She liked bold colors, and emphasized the textures of wood and fabric.
